East Side is the official suburb name, with "Old Eastside" the local shorthand for its earliest streets. Not a separately gazetted suburb. What that means in practice is genuinely older housing than most of Alice Springs: a higher chance of finding a switchboard that's never been touched since the house was built, rewireable fuses instead of circuit breakers, no RCD/safety switch protection at all, and wiring that predates the modern colour-coding standard.

None of that is unusual for a house this age, but the risk profile is different to a newer suburb.
