At around 1.5km² and one of the more densely built suburbs in Alice Springs, Braitling sits only a few kilometres from the CBD and was named after Bill and Doreen Braitling of Mount Doreen Station, who settled the area from 1930. Blocks are closer together here than in the outer suburbs, which usually means tighter access for cabling runs and older infrastructure that's had more owners and more additions over the years.

A closely-built inner suburb like Braitling tends to carry a real mix of switchboard eras behind those front doors, some already upgraded to RCBO protection, others still running on whatever was fitted when the house was last touched. The 45°C summers put real load on whatever's in that box, so if your board hasn't been looked at in a while, or the aircon trips the safety switch on the hottest days, that's a call we're used to fielding from this part of town.

Braitling is also home to the Braitling Neighbourhood Centre, and a suburb with this many family households and small home-based operations keeps us busy with a steady run of extra power points, split-system circuit upgrades, and the odd extension lead that's been quietly doing the job of a permanent circuit for years longer than it should. Being an inner suburb also means older meter boxes closer to the street frontage in places, and tighter side-boundary access between houses that changes how a cable run gets planned compared with a more spread-out block further from town. None of that is a problem for us. It's just what an established, closely-built suburb like Braitling actually looks like on the ground, and why a one-size template quote rarely fits it properly.
